Grommets are apparel materials that are said to have gotten their name from the resemblance to the eyes of pigeons that form when fastening the edges of punched holes in fabric or leather. They have long been used to reinforce the edges of holes, mainly around the hood of a parka or for threading string through the drawcords of pants, or to give outerwear breathability. Some products are available in relatively large sizes, and they are apparel materials that can also serve as a design accent depending on the size and where they are used.
